Northern Lights Seen in Colorado

The Aurora Borealis was seen a few nights thorughout the United States and even I was able to catch a few shots that shows how pink and some colors that aren’t normally seen in the high country. The last time I (Stacy) saw them, it was when I spent time in Juneau, Alaska back in 2002. I was an outdoor educator before marrying into the small business world.

when I returned, I met Dina and joined Petal and Bean, which we celebrate that 10 years ago we sold the business to an employee who is still running a successful business.

Fall Colors in Breckenridge

In a blog post a few years ago, I shared some trails that are fall favorites. Fall is an extra special time as there are flowers still around for a while and then fall temps kick in, flowers fade and the tree leaves turn a brilliant gold. This year the colors last a long time, and even as I write this there are still aspen trees in Breckenridge with fall colors. I have a tree in my front yard that seems to always turn yellow last in our neighborhood.

There is even a spot I call “the Yellow Room” as the ground cover is yelow, and the tall trees holding the yellw leaves creates a glow that is absolutely spectacular. Dina and I ran into some folks that were going to sit in that spot and they called it the “enchanted forest” which is another fun name for this area. Mention this to Dina and Stacy and we can share it personally, but won’t post it here for everyone. So, if you’re reading this blog and made it this far, here’s a link to a walkthough I did of this spot that shows just how magical it is.

Boreas Pass Road and Aspen Alley

Well, there’s no mistaking that Aspen Alley and Boreas Pass Road just may be the most popular fall leaf peeping spots in Breckenridge and that’s for good reason. You can walk or drive Boreas Pass, but the real treat is Aspen Alley. Just make sure to plan for a small parking lot at the new Sawmill Museum. Some even get dropped off at the top and then walk down. Avid hikers can hike from the Stephen C. West Ice Arena parking lot, near Isak Hearrstone, the Breckenridge Troll. You can walk from this area and connect Aspen Alley for a longer option.

Be sure to visit the Snowplow Rotary Park at the base of Boreas Pass Road if you have little kids as there’s a playground and other options for learning about the trains that cleared the way for Breckenridge to thrive.

Hike the Blue River Rec Path in Silverthorne Colorado

Silvethorne is now an option as they’ve been working on expanding a nice rec path that runs parallel to the Blue River. Pop down close to the river bank and let the dogs get a quick drink or take a quick dip to cool off as the month of September and October have been unusally warm this fall. We had a small dusting of snow, but it melted the next day. But, it was enough to stoke up the locals in anticipation of powder days ahead. These days, we’re patient and usually nordic ski for a few times before going up “on the hill.”
