After being trained in mountain travel and warfare techniques, many soldiers returned to Colorado in hopes to open ski areas and other mountain centers. Pete Siebert explored what was to become Vail and identified it as a prime location for a ski area. He was correct in his vision, and it has become one of the most popular ski areas in the entire world. It's a large mountain with the legendary back bowls offering large fields of powder and advanced terrain.
What Life is Like in Vail
A base village was modeled after European villages and has a pedestrian core that is filled with excited skiers and visitors exploring the shops and restaurants. Summertime brings one of the best farmers markets in the mountains, and we recommend trying out the gyro from the food truck! Music and performance arts can be found at the Ford Amphitheatre and the Vilar Center. Flower lovers will delight in wandering the grounds at the Betty Ford Alpine Gardens. Take time to stroll near the river and watch the kids play in the water.

The Town of Vail is a Home Rule Municipality in Eagle County, Colorado, United States. The population of the town was 5,305 in 2010. The town was established and built as the base village to Vail Ski Resort, with which it was originally conceived. Vail Ski Resort's first season was in December 1962; it is the largest ski mountain in Colorado.
