What Life is Like in Lake County
Leadville is the main community of Lake County, with Climax and Oro City being the other. There are a few other areas with residential groupings, but the majority of residents are to be found in Leadville, which was once considered one of the most "lawless towns of the west." The miners back in the day used to work hard and then play hard. And, that can be true and applied today, as some of the toughest folks living and visiting can be found in Leadville, as they prepare for the famous Leadville 100, a one hundred mile foot race.

Lake County is one of the 64 counties in the U.S. state of Colorado. As of the 2010 census, the population was 7,310. The county seat and the only municipality in the county is Leadville. The highest natural point in Colorado and the entire Rocky Mountains is the summit of Mount Elbert in Lake County at 14,440 feet (4401.2 meters) elevation.
